In 1987, Hasbro phased out the long running G.I.Joe Mobile Strike Force Team memberships and started a new Fan Club: the G.I.Joe Steel Brigade Fan Club​. Collectors received a poster, a hat with a Steel Brigade patch, a dog tag, an Official Passport, an Official Handbook, and a shoulder patch when they joined the club. ​Real world passports often feature unique identification numbers burned through every single page using laser technology. These holes travel through all the visa pages as well as the back cover. The Official G.I.Joe Passport emulates this look with a printed identification number on every page that is flipped on left hand pages. ​Pages 1-4 allowed customization and personalization of the passport. Pages 5-7 featured stamps from locales that G.I.Joe fans would recognize. Page 8 encouraged the imaginative role play that G.I.Joe was so well known for.
