1987 Snack Pack (SGI, Inc.)
This cloth G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero Snack Pack was created by SGI, Inc. in 1987. SGI was located down the road from Hasbro in Cranston, Rhode Island. This Snack Pack combines an innovative daypack with an insulated lunch box. Snack Pack courtesy of Dan Moore.
The 1987 Snack Pack daypack has a sewn-on leatherette identification patch to help prevent loss, a haul hoop for easy storage, and adjustable, padded shoulder straps for carrying. The durable, water-repellent, nylon exterior of the pack has weather-protective flap covers for the zipper and a high-visibility, reflective safety strip across the front. The interior of the bag is roomy and there is a convenient zippered accessory pocket with pen and pencil patches sewn inside for easy organizing.

The 1987 Snack Pack lunch box has its own separate pocket on the front of the daypack for easy access. There is an easy to carry handle located on the top of the lunch box. The lunch box is foam insulated, to “keep cold foods cold, hot foods hot.” The lunch box also utilizes popular features of the day like a write-on ID patch, easy to clean vinyl lining, and a zip-tight closure to keep one’s lunch safely secured.
